The Blue Jays have suspended Yunel Escobar for three games for displaying a homophobic slur written in Spanish on his eye black during Saturday’s game.
The three-game suspension was mutually agreed upon by the Blue Jays, MLB and MLBPA, so it appears this will be the extent of his punishment. The salary lost during his absence will be donated to the You Can Play Project and the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. Escobar will also participate in sensitivity training and take part in an outreach initiative aiming at helping educate society about sensitivity and tolerance to others.
