Tim Stauffer has indicated that he’ll likely undergo surgery on his right elbow.
An MRI didn’t show any structural damage, but Stauffer is resigned to the fact that exploratory surgery is “probably the next step… open it up and see what’s going on. I’m not expecting it to be a ligament. It could be something very minor that’s throwing everything off, or it could be more than that. We really won’t know until we go in there and take a look.” Stauffer has already been ruled out for the season, as he wound up making just one start for the Padres this year due to elbow and shoulder woes. He could be non-tendered this winter.
