Jered Weaver was torched for a career-high nine earned runs in three-plus innings by the Rays on Friday.
So much for Weaver’s sparkling 1.23 home ERA. He allowed as many earned runs tonight as he did in his previous 10 starts at Angel Stadium this year. His overall ERA jumped from 2.22 to 2.73, taking him from first place to fifth place in the AL. After allowing two runs in three innings tonight, he failed to retire any of the seven batters he faced in the fourth. Both runners he left on also came around to score. His previous high total for earned runs allowed was eight. That had happened four times, including once earlier this year against the Rangers.
