Braves catching prospect Christian Bethancourt broke the fifth metacarpal in his left hand when he was struck by a pitch in Thursday’s game with Double-A Mississippi.
It’s an injury that will prematurely end what has been a disappointing season. One of the top catcher prospects in the game, Bethancourt also missed more than a month with a hamstring injury earlier this season and wound up hitting just .243/.275/.291 with two homers for Mississippi. He’ll likely return there in 2013.
