Trevor Plouffe (thumb) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Saturday with Triple-A Rochester.
Plouffe was cleared for game action after making it through batting practice Friday without incident. The plan calls for him to play with the Red Wings on Saturday and Sunday before being activated from the disabled list Monday. The 26-year-old has been sidelined since jamming his thumb on a swing on July 20.
