Scott Downs pitched a flawless ninth against the Royals on Monday to pick up his ninth save.
Ernesto Frieri has recovered well from his first bad outing for the Angels, but Downs is still getting more work in close games lately. This was actually the first save for either since the All-Star break. Downs blew a save and took a loss on July 13. He had given up runs in two of his three appearances in the second half.
