John Lannan was terrific in a spot start against the Braves on Saturday, allowing two runs on five hits over seven strong innings.
Lannan fanned three while walking two in the game. Both runs came across in the first inning, as Chipper Jones blasted an RBI double and rode home on a single from Freddie Freeman. Lannan settled in nicely afterwards and turned in a very strong performance. In 18 starts at Triple-A Syracuse, Lannan compiled a 6-9 record, 4.89 ERA and 58/39 K/BB ratio over 106 2/3 innings. While he’s unlikely to stick in the rotation, he may have shown enough to become an interesting trade target before next week’s deadline.
