David Lennon of New York Newsday reports that the Mets are targeting Athletics’ right-hander Grant Balfour in a potential trade.
The Mets have a major-league worst 5.00 ERA out of their bullpen, so they are considering a long list of potential upgrades. Balfour has a 3.12 ERA and 32/18 K/BB ratio over 43 1/3 innings this season. He’s still owed roughly half of his $4 million salary for 2012 while his contract includes a $4.5 million club option for 2013 or a $350,000 buyout.
