Dustin Pedroia (Red Sox)

The Boston Globe reports Dustin Pedroia (thumb) is expected to miss “at least three weeks.”

Pedroia had X-Rays and an MRI on Thursday and will wear a cast for the next two weeks. Manager Bobby Valentine wouldn’t speculate on his timetable for returning, but it’s clear he won’t be activated from the disabled list when first eligible. Pedroia has “an injury to the volar plate” of his right thumb and may have ligament damage. No surgery is needed and the injury will not end his season.
