Anthony Bass was pounded for nine runs — seven earned — in 5 1/3 innings by the A’s on Friday night.
It’s the fifth straight start in which Bass has allowed at least four runs. His ERA stood at 2.89 before the stretch, but he’s at 4.88 now and he’d probably be on his way out of the San Diego rotation if the team had more healthy arms. As is, he figures to get at least one more chance. We still think he has it in him to be a solid NL-only pitcher.
