Diamondbacks signed Miguel Montero to a five-year, $60 million contract extension.
The deal was made official at a press conference Saturday. Montero, 28, was in his final year of arbitration and likely would have drawn heavy interest in free agency. Originally signed as an undrafted free agent, Montero owns a career .270 average with 60 homers, 267 RBI and a .442 slugging percentage over parts of seven seasons with the Diamondbacks. He’ll now be under contract through the 2017 season.
