Austin Jackson will be placed on the disabled list Friday with an abdominal strain.
We figured it was just a matter of time. Jackson hasn’t played since last Wednesday, so the Tigers couldn’t afford to go shorthanded on their bench any longer. The 25-year-old center fielder is scheduled to return to Detroit on Friday to undergo additional testing, including an MRI. His stint on the disabled list will be backdated to May 17, so he’ll be eligible to return on June 1. Quintin Berry and Don Kelly should share playing time in center field for now. Ryan Raburn will be activated from the bereavement list Friday in a corresponding roster move.
