The Nationals announced that Bryce Harper will be called up to make his major league debut Saturday against the Dodgers.
The Bryce Harper Era is upon us. It’s a pretty surprising decision by the Nationals, as many thought they would wait until June to avoid eventual Super Two status. Service time issues aside, Harper is batting just .250/.333/.375 with one homer, three RBI and a .708 OPS over his first 82 plate appearances with Triple-A Syracuse. Impressive numbers for a 19-year-old, but he’s hardly tearing things up down there. Still, the Nationals need a boost for their offense with Ryan Zimmerman (shoulder) set to hit the disabled list in a corresponding move. Keep the expectations in check, but Harper is worth adding in all formats.
