According to the Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo, right-hander Aaron Cook has “no intention” of extending the May 1 opt-out date in his contract with the Red Sox.
Cook is 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA and 1.00 WHIP through 20 innings (three starts) this season at Triple-A Pawtucket. He would presumably like a shot at a major league rotation spot, and probably deserves it considering how poorly the Red Sox have pitched this month. If Boston doesn’t grant his wish, the veteran starter will likely begin seeking an opening within a different organization.
