Drew Smyly held his own against the mighty Rangers Sunday, allowing just one run on five hits and two walks in six innings of Detroit’s 11-inning loss at home.
He struck out seven. Smyly’s only real “mistake” came in the first, where he became Josh Hamilton’s latest home run victim. The 22-year-old lefty is now the owner of a 1.12 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 15/6 K/BB ratio through his first three starts and 16 innings. All the baserunners he’s allowing obviously foretell darker days, but he’s worth an own in AL-only leagues. Keep him benched against the Yankees in New York next weekend, however.
