Matt Capps shipped out to Minnesota for catching prospect Wilson Ramos and LHP Joe Testa. Matt Capps will be closing in Minnesota with Jon Rauch in a setup role (Jon Heyman). Wilson Ramos is regarded as a top flight catching prospect and Joe Testa is a 23 year old lefty who has had some success in the minors, though struggled in a promotion to AA this year.
- Oh boy, so Ramos and Testa for Capps? This is confirming my fear of the bullpen emphasis that’s going to hit the MLB this year and for years to come. I blame the Padres. I’m a big proponent of bullpen help but Ramos was arguably the best real catching prospect in the MiLB. All I can say is the Nationals are quickly becoming one of my favorite teams; tied for number two with the dodgers currently. -A Cautiously More Optimistic Twins Fan Compared to the Others, Fenam (ACMOTFCTO)
- “Got it confirmed, Miguel Tejada to the Padres is a done deal. Pending league approval. Baltimore Sun had it first. Waiting to hear compensation.” -Corey Brock

- Issues Remain in Oswalt Trade -Heyman
- Fangraph’s Complexity of Roy Oswalt as a Phillie by Dave Cameron: “…it is impossible to escape the overarching truth that anything they do now will be less effective than simply keeping Cliff Lee would have been last winter. That trade was inexplicable from the beginning, and has not looked any better for the Phillies since it was made. Now, four months into the 2010 season, making a move for Oswalt to upgrade the rotation is a tacit admission that they would have been better off keeping Lee.”
- Yahoo’s Take
- Phils and Astros were discussing J.A. Happ, rhp vance worley and 2 younger pitchers. could be package for Oswalt. -Heyman
- Astros await Roy Oswalt‘s ok on a trade to the Phillies. -Mark Berman
- Though Jorge Cantu is still on field, he is being traded to Rangers, Marlins paying $600,000 of $2.1M left on his contract. -Sherman

Alberto Callaspo from the Royals to the Angels for Sean O’Sullivan and MiLB Will Smith -Bob Dutton
- MLB Trade Rumors – First Take. Sports Illustrated – Heyman’s take. RotoProfessor – Trade Analysis. Fanhouse’s Take. Fangraph’s Royals Perspective, Angels Perspective.
- I’ve always liked Callaspo and now the Angels are doing the Callaspo Dance. He’ll be a solid utility man for them or could offer a more potent third base option than what they’ve had going. This marks the beginning of the Royals’ fire sale. Be prepared for many more detail the Royals are said to be willing to sell anyone, yes anyone — even Greinke. -Fenam
-
Yunel Escobar and Jo-Jo Reyes of the Atlanta Braves traded to the Blue Jays for Alex Gonzalez, Tim Collins, and Tyler Pastornicky.
- At first glance: Yunel Escobar for Alex Gonzalez is a win for the Blue Jays. Escobar has the tools to be a great shortstop and being in Toronto should give him a boost in power with the reverse happening to Gonzalez. Youth and upside vs. offense oriented veteran.
- At second glance: The trade is more even because of the MiLB players. Collins is a small lefty that is having dominant success in the minors >1 K/IP and < 3.30 FIP through three season (R, A, A+, AA). Pastornicky could be penned as the SS of the future, at 20 years of age he is playing A+ ball with decent baserunning skills and adequate defensive abilities. -Fenam
- Fanhouse’s take. Fangraph’s Toronto Perspective, Atlanta Perspective, and The Guys Besides Yunel. FantasyBaseball365′s take.
- “This trade improves our club for the second half of the season. We have been looking at ways to strengthen our club offensively and Alex Gonzalez is a proven veteran player who gives us added power.” – Braves GM Frank Wren
- “Some of the great players aren’t available when they’re performing at their peak level, so we’re going to have to gamble a little bit on guys that are having down years or guys that may have fallen out of favor. Those are some of the opportunities that we’re going to have to pounce on.” -Jays GM Anthopoulos obtained from MLBastian
- Cliff Lee and Mark Lowe from Mariners to the Rangers for $2.25M, Justin Smoak, Blake Beaven, Josh Lueke, and Matthew Lawson. -Bob Nightengale
-
Bengie Molina from the Giants to the Rangers for Chris Ray
- Russell Branyan from the Cleveland Indians to the Seattle Mariners
