Done Deals

  • Per Bob Nightengale, club officials from both clubs indicate that Edwin Jackson seems to be headed to the Chicago White Sox, likely for Daniel Hudson. The White Sox may then flip Jackson to the Nationals for Adam Dunn.
  • Matt Capps shipped out to Minnesota for catching prospect Wilson Ramos and LHP Joe Testa. Matt Capps will be closing in Minnesota with Jon Rauch in a setup role (Jon Heyman). Wilson Ramos is regarded as a top flight catching prospect and Joe Testa is a 23 year old lefty who has had some success in the minors, though struggled in a promotion to AA this year.
    • Oh boy, so Ramos and Testa for Capps? This is confirming my fear of the bullpen emphasis that’s going to hit the MLB this year and for years to come. I blame the Padres. I’m a big proponent of bullpen help but Ramos was arguably the best real catching prospect in the MiLB. All I can say is the Nationals are quickly becoming one of my favorite teams; tied for number two with the dodgers currently. -A Cautiously More Optimistic Twins Fan Compared to the Others, Fenam (ACMOTFCTO)
  • “Got it confirmed, Miguel Tejada to the Padres is a done deal. Pending league approval. Baltimore Sun had it first. Waiting to hear compensation.”  -Corey Brock
  • Roy Oswalt to the Phillies for J.A. Happ, OF Anthony Gose, SS Jonathan Villar.-Rosenthal
    • Astros await Roy Oswalt‘s ok on a trade to the Phillies. -Mark Berman
      • Phils and Astros were discussing J.A. Happ, rhp vance worley and 2 younger pitchers. could be package for Oswalt. -Heyman
      • Fangraph’s Complexity of  Roy Oswalt as a Phillie by Dave Cameron: “…it is impossible to escape the overarching truth that anything they do now will be less effective than simply keeping Cliff Lee would have been last winter. That trade was inexplicable from the beginning, and has not looked any better for the Phillies since it was made. Now, four months into the 2010 season, making a move for Oswalt to upgrade the rotation is a tacit admission that they would have been better off keeping Lee.”
      • Yahoo’s Take
  • Though Jorge Cantu is still on field, he is being traded to Rangers, Marlins paying $600,000 of $2.1M left on his contract. -Sherman
    • “The Marlins have informed the Rangers they are willing to pay most, if not all, of the remainder of Jorge Cantu‘s contract.” -Bob Nightengale

Re: Zach Greinke being available … speculation that he could go to the Yankees? A guy who has suffered from anxiety issues in KANSAS CITY is going to pitch for the YANKEES?! Where do these writers come up with this stuff?
